Project Update - 4/28/2009

Good Day Mach-II-ers! By popular demand, here is the project update for the past few weeks. We send project updates out on an as-needed basis. Without further ado, here is this week's update:

This Week's Special Thanks

Just wanted to thank Derrick Jackson for contributing a great start to the code to our auto-update feature for the Mach-II Dashboard. The phone home feature will check with mach-ii.com for new versions of the framework and dashboard let you auto-update them. It's still very alpha and not feature complete yet, but a picture is worth a thousand words so here is a screen shot for your coding pleasure:

I'd like to also thank Jonah and Brian for their insightful comments about how Mach-II can support auto-negotiating between HTTP/HTTPS (secured support) in a future version of Mach-II. It was great "conversation" on a Trac ticket so if you want to throw your two cents into this, we would love to hear from you. Community involvement is essential to creating great future versions of Mach-II so become involved by reading and commenting on the Trac ticket:

Helping with documentation is a great way to get noticed by Team Mach-II and is how our newest team member, Brian FitzGerald, became involved with the project. If you need help with using the wiki or about adding articles, feel free to contact Brian for help -- brian [@at@] mach-ii.com.

Mach-II Project Blog Highlights

Mach-II: History, Philosophy, and Community
Since there's been a bit of a stir about the state of CFML frameworks recently, and having been in the middle of this sort of thing four years ago (was it that long?) with Mach-II, it seemed an appropriate time to share some thoughts that have been fermenting in my head (Matt) as well as in discussions on the Mach-II team for quite a while. Specifically I'd like to share with everyone some of the philosophy underlying the Mach-II project, our development process, why we do things the way we do, and ultimately why we do what we do.
