Mach-II Glimpses: What We're Up To Lately!

I thought it would be cool to let you know what the Team has been up to lately.  We're glad to welcome Adrian Scott to Team Mach-II.  His bio, photo and complete list of life ambitions are forth coming. Welcome Adrian -- we are happy to have you!

Kurt

  • "Pretty much completely rewrote the event-bean command" because of all the new stuff!"
  • "I started a nice unit test [with MxUnit] that throughly tests all the new code in event-bean."

Rock on Kurt! Keep cookin' on that code.  Kurt is an un-sung programming powerhouse on Team Mach-II. He deserves more credit than he publicly gets.

Adrian

  • "Planning out a series of beginner M2 tutorials. They'll be a pretty sweet resource."

Way to hit the ground running Adrian!

Peter

  • "Writing documentation for the view tag library and the loop criterion attribute of cache-clear."
  • "Building out some tools for the tools tab of the dashboard. RegEx tester and scribble page tools are forthcoming."
  • "Coordinating on the last 10 tickets of over 180 tickets filed for 1.8 Simplicity."

Feels kinda strange commenting on myself, but consider myself colored busy this Fall.

Matt

  • Attending SpringOne2GX: "Brain already going a mile a minute and that's only from the opening keynote."

I'm sure Matt will be back with even more Mach-II vision ideas.  We're really research new stuff for 1.9 and 2.0!

Brian

  • "Working on some more Mach-II QuickStart screencasts."

Brian has done three great screencasts be sure to check the latest (as of the date of this blog post): Introduction to Mach-II events Part Two http://bit.ly/mCdVJ

Well, that's the quick update for this week.  More to come soon.

Mach-II Screencast - Introduction to Mach-II events Part Two

Happy Friday!  I'm writing this post to point out that we have a new screencast available for you.  This brief video continues to discuss events in Mach-II, illustrates the syntax for announcing events programmatically, and touches briefly on the event queue.

I also wanted to point out that I will be at CFinNC this weekend, so if you want to talk Mach-II or anything else, please do say hello!  Since it'll be tough to find each other if you don't know what I look like, here I am.  Enjoy the screencast!

Mach-II screencasts, so easy a caveman could do it!

One of the great things about the Mach-II framework is just how easy it is to use.

I'm not just blowing smoke here - when I got started using Mach-II, I had never used an MVC framework before.  Even still, it was just a matter of digging through some simple documentation on the wiki, asking a few questions on the Mach-II Google Group, and I was ready to rock.

BUT, to eliminate any possible barriers to giving Mach-II a try, we wanted to make the process of getting started even easier.  For that reason, I'm pleased to announce "MachStart."  MachStart will be a series of short, concise, Mach-II screencasts produced by Team Mach-II to prove just how easy it is to start building robust, flexible, maintainable applications with Mach-II.

Our first video (Installing Mach-II) is just over five minutes long, and is ready for you to check out.  So if you've been waiting for the perfect time to give Mach-II a try, go ahead and check out the first MachStart screencast!

Wow, it's a been a busy month for the project and I apologize for all of the announcement emails going out to the list this week. We just wanted to point a few things of interest that everybody using the framework should know about.

Developers Google Group - Help Steer New Features in Future Releases

We've setup a Google Group for discussions on the actual development of the framework. This is where you can interact and participate with Team Mach-II by helping us steer, shape and build future releases of the framework. We set this group so only the people who are interested in these types of discussions can join and to not jam up this group with too much development chatter.  Join us today:

Don't Fear the Wiki

The wiki is the best place to find Mach-II documentation. If you haven't checked it out in a while, you should check it out again. Just wanted to say thank to the newest "MachStar" Jay Julien yet again for making a half a dozen changes to the wiki earlier this evening.  It's these types of contributions to the project that really makes all of us on Team Mach-II feel good about the project.  Thanks Jay!

7 Must have resources for the Mach-II Newcomer

With a jolt of new documentation, as we've seen with the Mach-II project over the last six months, sometimes comes a little confusion too.  What I mean is, the base of quality Mach-II documentation and resources is growing so quickly that I get the feeling some great stuff is getting "lost in the shuffle"!

What I would like to do in this blog post is direct Mach-II newcomers to some of the special learning gems we have tucked away in the archives.  This way, we can make they aren't buried out of sight or sneaking by you.

So without further ado!

1) Head First Mach-II Captivate Presentation 45 minute audio/visual by Matt Woodward

2) Intro to Implicit Invocation,  great article by Ben Edwards

3) AppBooster sample application sample app to study -- a great resource for a simple multiple role user login system in Mach-II

4) Framework API the place to go to find which methods are available to you as you're writing your applications, as well as look under the hood of Mach-II

5) The Big-Daddy Mach-II Wiki lots of great FAQ's and additional documentation

6) Mach-II Google Group - awesome place to go to get your tough Mach-II questions answered

7) Mach-II itself Just on the off chance that you don't actually have the framework yet.  There's no learning like hands on learning, so get started!

We hope these tools give you the jump start you need to learning how to build powerful, maintainable, and flexible Web applications with the Mach-II framework.  If you already got your hands on these resources, leave a comment and let us know which one is your favorite!
